Back in the day, you didn't pop in to your local ammunition or rifle store to buy ammunition. Instead, you melted lead ingots over the fire, stirred with a ladle to get a smooth consistency, and then poured the melted lead into a mold. Once it hardened and you freed it from the mold, you had a bullet. This alone would motivate you to be a good shot...you couldn't afford to miss if you had to make every bullet by hand!
