You may think hay is light, but put a bunch of it in a bale and you have a heavy load! Early farmers couldn't simply pick up a bale with their tractor. Instead, they would use this hay knife to cut off a portion of the bale so that they could move it to the manger or feeding trough for their animals. Once again, note that this is a hand tool. No automation here!
