You'll notice that hammers have not changed much! We've dated this one circa 1800s and it looks remarkably similar to something you could buy at Home Depot today. Metal nails also would have been appearing on the construction scene at this time. Although construction is never easy, it got a whole lot easier when you didn't have to make your own wooden pegs first!
