Museum Project Gets $1 Million
The Michilimackinac Historical Society received a $1 million appropriation from the State of Michigan in December, when the Michigan Legislature approved its $1.2 billion supplemental spending bill. The funds will be used for the historical society’s new museum, the Straits Cultural Center, at 20 South State Street in St. Ignace.
Grant Supports New Straits Cultural Center
The Michilimackinac Historical Society is thrilled to announce it received a $1 million appropriation from the State of Michigan towards its new, state-of-the-art Straits Cultural Center.
The Historical Society engages more than 10,000 visitors each year in the rich, multi-faceted history of this region through intriguing artifacts and one-of-a-kind exhibits. These treasures are currently housed in the Fort de Buade Museum in downtown St. Ignace.
St. Ignace to Host Indigenous Art Display
The Intercontinental Biennial of Indigenous Arts will be traveling from Chicago to St. Ignace this year during Labor Day Weekend.
This one of a kind display is free to the public and features stunning pieces from indigenous artists from Central and South America as well as a few from North America and Northern Africa. Some of the artists will be present as well to discuss and sell their work to interested collectors.
